Counselling Services

There are always situations around your studies in which counselling is helpful or even necessary. The Hochschule Darmstadt, the Department of Advanced Education, the ASTA of the h_da, the Studierendenwerk Darmstadt and several others offer a wide range of counselling services for various concerns. In the following, we give you an overview of the offers for students and, as a final point, some links to other relevant counselling services.

For academic advice during your studies, please contact your respective programme director. You can request a consultation appointment at any time. You can find the contact details here.

If you have specific topic related questions, it can also be useful to contact the respective lecturer directly. Contact details and, if applicable, office hours can be found in the syllabi for the relevant course.

For advice on applications, job searches or career counselling, you can contact the h-da Career Centre or the Studierendenwerk Darmstadt. The university team at the Employment Agency (Arbeitsagentur) also offers advice on job and career orientation.

The ComeTOgether Team offers support in finding a job, especially for international students.

If you would like to set up a company, you can also contact the Career Center or the Darmstadt Start-Up & Unternehmenssprechstunde.

Advice and support for starting a career with a chronic illness or disability is offered by iXNet network (by and for academics or myAbility: Career programme for students with disabilities.

Many students combine their studies with family responsibilities, which leads to specific needs for asistance and counselling. In part-time studies, many students have to combine this with (full-time) work in addditon. Advice and support on these issues and on the compatibility of all areas is available through the following offers.

Financing a degree programme presents many students with challenges - whether full-time or in a (self-financed) part-time degree programme. The Studierendenwerk and the AStA each offer legal advice for students. Counselling is free of charge and covers all areas of law.

Legal advice from the AStA of the h_da. Legal counselling is offered at the Darmstadt and Dieburg campuses and covers the areas of higher education, BAFöG and family law; civil law; and criminal and labour law. Please note the information on the homepage and the consultation hours. Prior registration is required.

We offer a variety of advisory services for your studies and the organisation of your studies. The Department of Continuing Education and Dual Study Centre offers subject-related counselling services, but you also have the opportunity to take advantage of the general study counselling services.
